In the Studio

This past saturday, May 28, I went to my first Meet and Shoot(MaS)--a sister program of the APG. I had an absolute blast and met some great people. This was my first time in a studio environment! Photoplex(here), in Alpharetta, GA, was an amazing facility and the owners were some very cool people to hang out with and ask tons of questions to. As well, everyone there that was a veteran of the MaS's were hugely helpful and made us new people feel right at home. The day was action-packed and by the end of my time I had tons of new great photos that have been well received on Flickr.

To keep this post shorter than my APG one, I'll just go over what I learned and share some cool sights I saw. One of the first things I learned about the group, off the bat, is how insanely helpful they are. At one point I mentioned shooting shallow depth of field with my Nifty 50 and someone in the background said, "Hold up!" and then escorted me to their camera bag. It was there I was handed an L series Prime 85mm f1.2 lens. Then told to how to achieve my look. After that, I went over to the model and began shooting. This lens, by the way, is NOT cheap. It is a professional grade lens and I was using it on my little ol' Rebel- XT--very out of place.

From there, it was a lot of learning about my angles and my poses. Poses are still plaguing me as far as coming up with something to tell the model as well as addressing issues that the poses are causing for the model. To elaborate a little about the last point: I really haven't been paying attention to the shadows and modeling light on my subjects. That's something I'll be fixing this coming week. Some times is cool to have dramatic shadows. Other times its just a nightmare in post-production to fix and even then it's still not going to be a great picture.

Nevertheless, I ended up with some stellar shots and definitely some worthy of the Portfolio tag. Portfolio--that is something I'll also be working on this coming week. I think it's time to break it down into sections and so be on the look out for these pictures to end up in my portrait section of my portfolio.

Well, it's off to make another post about this week's 1,000 picture challenge and to make a summary about this past week's Nifty 50 challenge. Thanks for checking out my pictures and thanks for reading!
